Casa Compostela is a wonderful retreat and a great home base for those interested in the sights and life of Havana Vieja. If you want to truly experience the flavor of Havana, you must stay in the old part of town. The casa is clean, with simply, but adequately appointed rooms. There were probably 6 rooms in total, so be aware that you will probably not be the only guest. But the rest of the tourists, and Maite, who manages the property, make this place vibrant and interesting. You can hear stories, get the scoop on the best places to eat, or go dancing, you can ask for insights on the Cuban way of life. If you can - ask for a room overlooking the street. They have small balconies which are perfect for people watching at any time of the day. There are also at least two rooms with no windows to the outisde, and those can get stuffy without the AC. We rented 3 rooms alltogether, hence the experience with the different options. Good breakfast and excellent dinner.
